About Fija
This is a language I started making up for fun and possibly to use with some friends. I'm trying to keep things simple. It may not completely naturalistic, but I'm making it enjoyable to me :) Some basic elements which I will elaborate on eventually:
Basic sentence structure = SVO. ADJs -> nouns. Pretty sure I'm going with ADVs -> verbs, but I'm still working on that. Possessor -> possessee.
Subject & object pronouns are the same.
Verbs don't conjugate for person and only have 3 tenses right now: past, present, & future. Past & future are both marked with "il" which is short for "ila" (time); "il" as a prefix = past tense, "il" as a suffix = future tense. I may separate distant & recent past at some point. I'm also trying to decide if I want any progressive conjugations. Right now, you would just use context.
I use affixes for a lot. "A-" = IMP, "ka-" = NEG, "aka-" = NEG.IMP, "ta-" = NMZ, "-ni" = VBZ, "-ma" = POSS, plus all the normal prefixes and suffixes for ADJs & such (still working on those).
No double consonants. You must add a corresponding vowel depending on context between consonants when adding affixes. Example: past tense of "fir" (burn) would be "ilifir" instead of "ilfir." Same with making "daz" (he/him) possessive: "dazma" becomes "dazama." Exception: if the noun/pronoun ends with M, delete one M - "nem" (they) is "nema," not "nemama." All vowels are pronounced separately (no diphthongs), & 2 of the same vowel must be separated by a glottal stop (').
Not sure the best way to explain it, but reduplication is used for things that happen "again." Example: "mati" (to know) can become "mamati" (to remember {know again}). Also, "petal" (yesterday) becomes "pepetal" (day before yesterday).
I try to mash related words together to create new words when possible. For example: lomava (language) comes from lopelis (people), -ma (possessive marker), and vayi (speak). The rules for this are pretty much arbitrary - whatever helps me remember what's what!
