About Chirp
Chirp is a fictional Auxlang that came into use for being pronounceable by more species than traditional languages. (The number of speakers got removed, probably because it's very high.)
By eliminating most vowels, and heavily reducing the consonant space, it allows many mouths to speak it.
However, in order to keep information density at a reasonable level, a matrix of tones is used to keep things straight. In fact, in their conscript, the tone markings are usually at least as big as the vowel
This is where the English name comes from, in that it sounds a bit like birdsong. Or is supposed to. That didn't really happen.
Also now used for a "fantasy but with space" RP setting in addition to hyperfuture ponies
