About Averdonyan Averdon ('æv.ɛr.dun) is a monarchal hegemony that rules a quarter of the continent of Ascilon, stretching from the fringes of the Wiccambi Desert in the north to the frigid Bay of Vajyaan in the south. From the throne city of Maardiin on the shores of the Starlight Basin, the Kiirin rules over 3 million subjects in principalities, duchies, protectorates and vassal states. The royal line claims direct descent from Galen, the first man on Priiem, who walked out of the misty tide wholly made and had communion with the primal god, Taor. That bloodline has been asserted by seven dynasties and assorted kiirins through the centuries, giving rise to the phrase "shtren Galenyaaruu", which literally means "Galen's blood" but connotes "a truth that is made legitimate by fear of being seen to not believe it."

The language of Averdon, at least, can claim descent from the first Galendik tribes, who migrated across the Fields of Far Dawn in the cradle of days and fractured into subgroups. One of those subgroups, led by Galen's great grandson, Sugaal, founded the first community on the Sea of Martyrs (later Hashkaar). The Galendik tongue is the root of Averdonyan (just as it is the root of other neighbouring languages, such as Medrunite, Rodimyru, and Garumgarian).

Averdonyan is a largely head final language whose most basic sentence structure is OSV. Much of the grammar is streamlined, including no genders or classes, no articles and a relatively simple verb system that appends infinitive root stems with pronoun suffixes and uses auxiliaries to modify tense. Nouns are more complex beasts that take number and case endings as layered suffixes. The polarity in the language illustrates a famous maxim and guiding philosophy of the Kiirin Eiven dynasty: "What the eye unfolds, the hand swiftly encloses."
