Nouns are a closed class in Proto-Abyssal. Their culture ascribes power to naming things, so they want to name things that they think have power [or that should have power], and leave un-named things that they find questionable, detestable, disgusting, or unworthy, among other reasons. Naming things carries a lot of baggage in Proto-Abyssal society - one can't just give something a name without first discussing and debating it with the rest of the clan. Going against the rules was a serious offense.
Anything not on this list can be referred to by building from the closed class of nouns + derivational suffixes and/or verbs + the classification system, creating collocations and idiomatic phrases for describing things.
