Mawang lies along the equator and is either tropical rainforest or humid-subtropics. Temperatures throughout the year range from 60 to 100 degrees F, and rain is common throughout the year. Common animals include snakes, crocodiles, parrots, monkeys, tigers and dolphins.

Due to Mawang's incredible biodiversity and long coastline, trading, especially in animal skins and furs, is a common livelihood. Many people are also farmers, fishermen, or craftsmen. Much of the economy comes from exporting rice, coffee, citrus fruits and wooden ships.

Popular dishes eaten in Mawang typically include pickled vegetables, rice, and seafood. Chili sauce is regularly used as a condiment. Meals are eaten with chopsticks, and it's expected that the whole family dines together for at least one meal a day.

Athleticism is valued very highly, and swordplay is an art practiced by even peasants. Other sports include Songyi, a variation of soccer, and cliff diving.

Loyalty, unity and education are also valued, and as such, the government pours money into opening state-run schools, where the ruling party's (NPM) ideology is taught along with other subjects.

The country is run by one party, and though other political parties are allowed, if they challenge the NPM's power, they will be forcibly disbanded. People are allowed to vote, but only for party-approved candidates. While this may seem to lack freedom, the citizens feel that it's made up for by the country's cohesion and power.

Families are patriarchal and many generations typically live under one roof. Marriages are traditionally arranged for the first two children, whose marriages are though to be most reflective of their family, and the rest are allowed to marry as they please. Gay marriage is common and gay couples are encouraged to adopt from state-run orphanages. Children are not given a name until they speak their first word, as it's thought that this is when they truly 'join the world'.

Capital punishment is legal for many crimes, as is sending the criminal to a work camp. Mental health care is unheard of unless you're a soldier with PTSD. Physical disabilities are looked down on as shameful and bad. Drug trafficking is very rare.

Holidays include the Fire Festival in summer, the Festival of Lights in winter, the president's birthday, and Ancestor Remembrance Day. All major holidays are celebrated with fireworks.
