The head of state and government of Oea'i is called the eôao'óeâ'í.
Oea'i is divided into seven provinces. These are shown in the following map:
In general, each island was ruled by an eôaôíó, and each village was ruled by an eôaôéí.
A notable exception was the Union of Aoe'i (I'è e'e A'éîé), which was a union of the islands of A'eie (A'éîé), I'ene (I'ené), and I'eo (I'èo). The entire union was jointly ruled by three eôaôíón, one from each island. It covered the same area as the modern-day province of Aoe'i; as a result, the province is still sometimes referred to as I'è e'e A'éîé, or simply I'è ("[the] Union"), in Eo'iona.
