Syllable StructureAndávar follows a NCLVVVMP syllable structure, where N are nasals, L are liquids, M are nasals or liquids and P are all consonants except palatals. This is with the exception of y, w, hy, or hw, which may not be at the end of a word-final syllable. Nasals, liquids, and fricatives may geminate. In consonant clusters, all consonants have consistent voicing and place of articulations, with the exception of the approximants. Where a consonant cluster begins with a nasal or liquid represented by a digraph, the second letter may be dropped, i.e. mhp → mp, nygy → ngy.
Stress informationStress falls on the first long vowel of a word. If a word has no long vowel, stress falls on the penultimate syllable.
OtherThe close vowels may be reduced to their semivowel equivalents intervocalically, i.e. aua [awa], eie [eje]. In a diphthong, i and u are reduced to [ɪ] and [ʊ] respectively. Close vowels are lost following a long mid vowel, i.e. óu [oː], éù [eː]. Close vowels may not follow other close vowels. Andávar has front-back vowel harmony, where i, e, and ù are exclusive to u, o, and à, and a is neutral.
