Etymology
Unclear. A surface analysis would indicate vale+wy, which is the reason this noun's gender is neuter. However, vale means "flow" and has no historical meaning involving violence. In the earliest stages of Imperial Ghibalbian this noun was valleilus, with *-lus becoming wy and *vallei- being of uncertain etymology, possibly meaning "violent(ly)", thus rendering the original meaning as "to move (towards) violently".
